Shahid Afridi thinks Indian team can not reach into Semifinals

Former national team captain Shahid Afridi has said that considering the current performance of the Indian team, he can now qualify for the semi-finals only in case of a miracle.

In a message on social networking site Twitter, Shahid Afridi said that the Indian team still has a slim chance of reaching the semi-finals.

However, the former national team captain said that given the current form of the Indian team, they can now qualify for the semi-finals only in case of a miracle.

Pakistan had beaten India by 10 wickets in their opening match of the World Cup and today the Indian team lost by 8 wickets against New Zealand in their second match played a week later.

Playing first, the Indian team scored 110 runs in the allotted overs and New Zealand easily won by 8 wickets and also got two valuable points.

After losing the second match in a row in the event, their chances of reaching the semi-finals have vanished.
India will have to rely on New Zealand’s performance as well as victory in the remaining matches to make it to the semi-finals.

How can India qualify for the semi-finals?

If the New Zealand team wins the remaining three matches, they will have six points, but at the same time they will have to improve their run rate.

The access of the Pakistan team seems certain as the rest of their matches are against rivals like Scotland and Namibia.

Now, along with New Zealand, Afghanistan can qualify in Group 2 because they have the best run rate.

If the Afghan team manages to beat India and New Zealand, it will qualify with Pakistan.

However, even if Afghanistan beats New Zealand, India will have to improve their run rate to qualify.

If the New Zealand team beats Afghanistan as well as Namibia and Scotland, it will qualify for the semi-finals along with Pakistan. However, in case of defeat to Afghanistan, the situation will become very interesting.

If Afghanistan beats New Zealand and India beats Afghanistan, all three teams in the group will have six points.

In that case, the team with the highest run-rate from Afghanistan, India and New Zealand will qualify for the semi-finals.
